      Delma: Swiss success story

In 1924 the brothers Adolf and Albert Gilomen founded A. & A. Gilomen S.A. in Lengnau in Switzerland. The first four brands the company registered were Gil, Midland, Thuya and Delma. It took until 1966 before the company came to its present name, because it was only after the takeover by Ulrich Wüthrich & Partner that the Swiss watch manufacturer, which is still independent today, started trading under the name Delma Watch Ltd. It took much less time for the company to establish itself as a high-quality supplier of pocket watches and wristwatches. Thus, in 1946, the first chronograph was launched on the market. The brand Midland, registered in the founding years, gave its name to this chronograph, which was equipped with 18-carat gold and mechanical manual winding and was to form the cornerstone of the Delma sports watch era. Many models and years later, Delma demonstrated its spirit of innovation and in 1969 launched the first automatic diving watches, which set quality standards early on and continue to do so today. This becomes particularly clear when one considers that the models in Shell Star and Quattro, which appeared only six years later, are still among the most popular watches for professional and amateur divers.

      Delma Watches & Collections

In addition to these two stainless steel wristwatch models with rotating bezel, Delma has launched many other successful watch collections during its long company history and has established itself as one of the most traditional Swiss watch manufacturers. Below you will find an overview of the company's most successful and significant models:

Delma watches: Swiss sports watches with great tradition

In 1981, Shark appeared, a model named after its precision and concise design elements. Built into a rectangular stainless steel case, the watch featured an automatic ETA 2789 movement and an unusual octagonal dial. Seven years later, the company took advantage of the resurgent demand for pocket watches and convinced with the Delma Moonphase pocket watch, a spring cover watch (savonnette) made of 18 carat gold. In 1991, the Klondike collection, a gold and platinum collection, was launched. Since then, it has been the company's trademark, appearing annually in strictly limited editions. In order to expand this signature collection, the Klondike steel was created in 2004. With its stainless steel case and innovative shapes and materials, it is still one of the most successful sports watches today. In 2011, the "Blue Shark", another sensational diving watch, was released, which is water resistant to 3000 m and the most up-to-date in terms of functionality and strength.

Delma Midland & Shell Star: Homage to the early years

Three years later, Delma delighted the public with a new edition of his "Midland" watch and managed the balancing act between a homage to his chronograph, which had been released more than seventy years earlier, and a bold look with exposed screws. In 2016, the Swiss watch manufacturer paid tribute to one of its first commercially successful models of the Shell Star and launched a further development of this first professional diving watch. With its 500m water resistance (50 atm), the current Shell Star meets the latest technical requirements, but its look is a tribute to its highly successful predecessor.

2019 was dominated by the market launch of the Blue Shark III (Blue Shark III) at Baselworld 2019, the world's largest watch and jewellery fair. Delma's most innovative product is perhaps the most powerful diving watch ever mass-produced in the world, and in its third edition, it boasts a water resistance of up to 13120 ft, i.e. approx. 4000 metres.
